Gawai Mood And Food Galore At The Spring

KUCHING : Shoppers in Kuching can experience the Gawai celebration at tHe Spring shopping Mall beginning today until this 28 May.

Its Director of Leasing and Marketing, Andy Song told dayakdaily.com that this year the mall is organising various activities in conjuction with the celebration.

“Gawai celebration is very important to Sarawak and this is something that The Spring has always hold very dearly to our hearts.”


“Because we never done anything big for Gawai, this year we want to celebrate Gawai with a bang,” he said.

He added that with the ‘ruai’ at the mall’s newly-renovated alfresco area, shoppers who never had the chance to celebrate Gawai in longhouse can now experience the festival in a modern setting.

There are 12 stalls participating during this 2 weeks event selling ethnic food and drinks as well as local-made handicrafts. Some of the food available are pansuh manuk, umai, sago worm, wide range of local brewed tuak (wine) and ice-cream.

At the mall’s centre court, the management has set up a mini ‘baruk’ which has its own cultural and storytelling activities.

” We as a shopping mall has always talk about unity and this event is a platform for everyone to celebrate this festival together.”

” We hope to continue to do this every year as long as the response from visitors is good,” he said.
