MIRI, April 8: The Gagasan Anak Dayak Sarawak (GADS) Gawai Dayak Bazaar 2022 is scheduled to take place from May 2 to May 21 in Permyjaya.

According to Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development II Dato Majang Renggi, this is the first time the bazaar will be held after a two-year absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Majang, who was representing Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during the pre-launching ceremony of the GADS Gawai Bazaar 2022 at a leading hotel here last night (April 7), said that the bazaar is a platform for vendors to sell local delicacies to generate extra income.

“It is not just a platform for vendors to sell their food as they could also promote local delicacies to tourists from outside Sarawak.

“Make full use of this platform to make this event a success,” he said, adding that the bazaar would also be able to showcase the Dayak culture.

Majang also announced Uggah’s pledge to contribute RM35,000 to GADS at the event.

Also present at the event were Miri mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang and GADS chairman David Upe.

Forty canopies will be set up for the bazaar, which was first held in 2015.

Earlier on, David, in his opening remarks, appealed to the local authority to provide a venue for the Dayak community in Miri to carry out their business activities. — DayakDaily
