KUCHING, May 9: The Gawai Bazaar 2022, which returns after a two-year hiatus, will take place from May 21 to May 29 at Taman Komuniti Serian and will feature authentic Dayak food, beverages, clothing, and handicrafts sold by local traders.
The event will be held from 10am to 10pm and is organised by the Serian District Council (MDS) in collaboration with the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Serian, and the Tarat, Tebedu, Kedup, and Bukit Semuja service centres.
The event programme includes karaoke sessions, live performances, traditional costume and dance competitions, and others.
Yesterday, Deputy Minister in the Premier of Sarawak’s Department (Labour, Immigration, and Project Monitoring) Dato Gerawat Gala announced that this year’s State-level Gawai Festival will be held on June 25 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), and will be hosted by the Orang Ulu community.
He explained that the Gawai celebration activities are held in conjunction with the State-level festival, which carries the theme ‘Together For A Shared Future’.
It is described as appropriate for fostering the spirit of unity among the Dayak community and also promoting their culture and traditions.
Gerawat also stated that the organisation is done every year by rotation (with organisers) consisting of Iban, Bidayuh, and the Orang Ulu. — DayakDaily
