KUCHING, Aug 20: The project to transform the MBKS swimming pool into a family water fun park and Gastronomy Centre that costs about RM40 million is expected to begin construction next year.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said project stakeholders had their first full engagement meeting yesterday (Aug 19).
By the end of this year, he said, the blueprint will be ready, and the construction is scheduled to be completed by 2024 or before the next gastronomy meeting in 2025.
“We target the centre to be finished before the next gastronomy meeting in 2025, which will be held in Kuching,” he said.
Wee also mentioned that this project is the largest people’s project (‘Projek Rakyat’) ever implemented on MBKS grounds.
Looking into the future, he said he would fight for more projects that are beneficial to the local communities.
“We need some new elements to be injected into the old streets (of Padungan) to drive the economy.
“If we don’t do anything, everyone will just be looking at each other, ‘tengok saja’,” he said during his ShallWeeTalk Facebook live session today.
In the next five to 10 years, Wee believed that Kuching South would have a brand new look. — DayakDaily
