MIRI, Feb 15: The state government through Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) is to focus on empowering the young generation of Sarawak in two crucial technology components that is big data analytics and algorithm research in order to be competitive globally.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the Sarawak government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will transform the state towards the age of big data analytics.

“The whole world is changing, it will be integrated into signal processing of big data and we must ensure our youngsters are ready,” he said.

Speaking at the launching of the SMA-TEGAS Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) at Miri Times Square at Marina ParkCity today, Abang Johari said for that reason the state government had planned to establish one innovation centre in each division and others (private sectors, universities and communities).

“Some people say ‘Abang Jo’ is so ambitious, I don’t care, we just go ahead, once we got the infrastructures, we will be able to launch new products and enhance our economy,” he pointed out.

He said, for the young generation, big data analytics would ensure that they were competitive and profitable in the future.

“The young generation plays a crucial role in the development of big data in the coming years, whereby they can create new products and innovations,” he said. —DayakDaily
