Funeral service for 3 remaining ferry victims to be held in Sibu on Tuesday

SIBU, Jan 3: The funeral service of three of the nine persons who died in the Triso ferry incident will take place on Tuesday (Jan 5) at Nirvana Memorial Park, Sibu.

They are  Lorna Ting, 33, (previously identified as Ronany Ting) and her two sons, Alvin Phang, 12, and Wallace Phang, 7.

Lorna’s eldest brother, Ting Hing Soon told reporters at Sibu Mortuary House at Jalan Bukit Lima today that by changing the funeral service from today to Tuesday, their relatives with some from outstation would be able to pay their last respects to the victims.

The bodies will be cremated where the ashes would later be kept at the Nirvana Memorial Park in Sibu.

“While waiting for the funeral service, we will take turns to look after the bodies here (Sibu Mortuary House),” he said.

The other six victims were buried at the Muslim cemetery at Kampung Hulu in Sri Aman yesterday (Jan2).

The six are Siti Aishah Abdullah, 36, and her five children, Mohd Aiman Mohd Hamdan, 7,  Mohd Ahmad Mohd Hamdan, 4 months, Muhd. Mustaqin Mohd Hamdan, 5, Khairunnisa Muhamad, 14, and Nor Shuhada Muhamad,16.

In the Friday tragedy, the four-wheel drive, driven by Lorna plunged into the water at the Triso Ferry point at Batang Lupar in Sebuyau.

Sri Aman police are still investigating the cause of the incident though technical failure of the vehicle could be one of the reasons for the incident.

Meanwhile Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi with his wife, Datin Seri Angelina and Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit were among those who visited family members of Siti Aishah at Sri Aman Hospital yesterday.

Siti Aishah’s family is from Kapit.

According to Nanta, he had instructed community leaders in Kapit to provide whatever assistance to the deceased’s family in their time of distress. — DayakDaily
