KUCHING, June 9: Sarawak’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) students have proven their capabilities on the international stage by placing second at the STVE x MARC Open Championship 2026 in Taipei, Taiwan, through the Finalist Alliance Award in the League of Mecha-Clash (LOM).
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the competition was held from May 30-31 at the National Taiwan Science Education Centre, where top robotics teams from various countries tested their skills in robot design, programming, strategy, and teamwork.
“The LOM category is an alliance-based competition that requires participants to develop high-performance robots capable of carrying out tasks autonomously and through manual control in a competitive environment.
“Beyond technical expertise, success in the category also depends on strategic planning as well as effective communication and collaboration among teams forming alliances throughout the competition,” said the report.
The robotics team from the Matang Vocational College advanced to the final round before being awarded the Finalist Alliance Award, elevating the profile of both the institution and Malaysia on the global stage.
At the same time, the achievement demonstrates that students from Malaysia’s vocational colleges possess a high level of proficiency in robotics, technology, and innovation, comparable to their international counterparts.
The STVE x MARC Open Championship 2026 is an international robotics competition organised by the Master AI Robot Cup (MARC). It provides participants with a platform to apply their knowledge of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), artificial intelligence (AI), programming, and engineering in real-world competitive scenarios. — DayakDaily
