KUCHING, Oct 23: The Democratic Action Party (DAP) Stampin team has come together to assist Man Abang, who was left homeless after a fire consumed his self-built wooden shack, leaving him to seek shelter under the Segubang Bridge in Batu Kawah.

Michael Kong Feng Nian, special assistant to DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, stated that Man, who hails from Sri Aman, has been residing in the Batu Kawah area for several years, where he works as an odd-job labourer at a carpentry shop.

“His home was a simple, self-built wooden shack on land belonging to his former employer—a space generously given to him to provide some security and shelter.

“But three days ago, disaster struck. A fire broke out and consumed everything he owned, leaving Man without a roof over his head or the basic necessities for survival.

“His home was reduced to ashes. Yet, amidst the devastation, Man’s resilience shone through. Rather than seeking a new place far away, he expressed a desire to remain close to his workplace and continue with the only life he knows,” he said in a statement.

Kong expressed solidarity with Man, emphasising the DAP Stampin team’s commitment to supporting him during this difficult time.

“In this moment of tragedy, we cannot simply stand by. Man needs help, and as a community, we are stepping forward.

“We have offered our support to help him rebuild his shelter; however, before we proceed, we must ensure that the landowner gives his continued consent for Man to stay there.

“We will work closely with both Man and the landowner to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to help him rebuild his life.”

In the meantime, the DAP Stampin team is calling on the community to assist by donating essential items such as clothing, bedding, and food to any DAP service centre, and all contributions will be delivered directly to Man.

In times of adversity, Kong reminded the public of the importance of unity and compassion. “No one should face hardship alone—together, we can restore hope and provide Man with the foundation to start anew.” — DayakDaily
