KUCHING, July 13: Special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) Chong Chieng Jen, Michael Kong Feng Nian, believes that open dialogue and continued collaboration between the community and Kuching Water Board (KWB) will resolve water issues in Kuching.
In a statement, Kong stated that among the issues he discussed with KWB were the frequent water disruptions that have been affecting Kuching residents, as well as the dirty or muddy water supply, which have caused inconvenience and frustration among residents.
“This morning, I had a productive meeting with Puan Rodziah Mohamad, the General Manager of Kuching Water Board (KWB), and her team to address various issues which have plagued KWB’s operations.
“Through the meeting, I was able to gain a better understanding of their challenges and together with KWB, explore solutions that would benefit the people of Kuching,” he said.
He went on to say that during the meeting, he also brought up the issue of the new water pipes installed at Lorong Semaba 2 since late 2022.
“It came to my attention that, despite the installation of the new pipes, residents are still receiving water from the old pipes because their respective water meters have not been migrated to the new pipe system.
“I am pleased to share that KWB has assured me that the process of migrating the water meters to the new pipes has commenced in late June 2023 and is scheduled to be completed by August 2023.
“This action will significantly improve the water supply for the affected residents.”
Another issue that was brought up was the persistently low water pressure in Yoshi Square at Pending, which has been widely reported.
“While KWB is aware of this problem, I express my gratitude to Puan Rodziah Mohamad and her team for their assurance and commitment to look into it and address these matters urgently for the convenience and satisfaction of the people.”
Kong also encourages consumers to submit complaints or issues to KWB via its website.
“KWB has acknowledged that their customer careline faces a high volume of incoming calls, particularly in the evenings.
“Therefore, it is important for the public to restrict their calls to urgent matters, such as water disruptions.
“By using the appropriate channels for communication, we can streamline the process and ensure that urgent issues are promptly addressed,” he noted.
He continued stating, “I am confident that with open dialogue and continued collaboration between the community and KWB, we can overcome these challenges and improve the water services in Kuching.
“I will closely monitor the progress of the actions taken by KWB and work together with them to ensure that the concerns and needs of the residents are met effectively.” — DayakDaily
