KUCHING, Feb 29: A total of 18 zones and 21 routes in Kuching have been confirmed and identified for the Free School Bus Service which hopes to be started in April 2020.

The Free School Bus service was one of the 81 initiatives Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had announced during the DUN sitting in November 2019.

“Free School Bus Service aims to provide a convenient traveling mode back and forth to school,” Minister of Transportation Datuk Lee Kim Shin said during the launching of the Free School Bus Service at Wisma Adenan on Saturday morning.

“It also helps to lessen the burden especially the low-income families in urban areas in meeting the cost of transportation to school,” Lee added.

According to Lee, this service will also help ease traffic congestion in the city and this initiative will be introduced to the other cities in the future too.

“I would like to request the cooperation of Persatuan Pengusaha Bas Sekolah Bumiputera Bahagian Kuching-Samarahan who acts as a Service Provider will give our best in delivering the services,” Lee pointed out.

“We will ensure the bus drivers do not use ‘shortcut’ or any other alternatives routes other than those assigned routes to reach to the school destination, improving and ensuring the safety of buses and students and making sure the bus drivers to have a sense of prudence,” Lee added.

Lee noted that it was important to focus on the safety of the students while using the school bus and the bus driver must ensure that buses were in good condition. ā€”DayakDaily
