KUCHING, June 5: A free public cancer awareness forum will be held in Kuching on Saturday, June 14, 2025, focusing on three of Malaysia’s most common cancers — prostate, breast, and colorectal — to empower communities with vital knowledge from diagnosis and treatment to rehabilitation and survivorship.
Organised by the Society for Cancer Advocacy and Awareness Kuching (SCAN), in collaboration with Rehab Concept and Hospital Picaso, the forum titled ‘Understanding Cancer Care: Surgery, Support & Survivorship’ will take place from 2pm to 5pm at the Chemsain Konsultant Building, Kuching, according to a press release.

“Cancer continues to be one of the leading causes of illness and death in Malaysia, with over 48,000 new cases reported annually,” the press release stated, citing the Malaysia National Cancer Registry Report.
Featuring a panel of medical and rehabilitation experts, the forum aims to support individuals and families navigating the cancer journey through a series of talks, a survivors’ sharing session, and a public Q&A.
Consultant Urologist Dato Dr Loh Chit Sin will speak on ‘Management of Prostate Cancer from A to Z’, guiding attendees through detection, surgical options, and patient outcomes.
Consultant Breast and Breast Reconstructive Surgeon Dr Ng Char Hong will cover ‘Management of Early Breast Cancer’, focusing on screening, reconstruction, and patient support.
Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon Dr Luqman Mazlan will highlight the importance of early diagnosis in his talk, ‘Colorectal Cancer: Early Detection Saves Lives’.
Senior Physiotherapist Liyen Patrick of Rehab Concept will present on ‘Oncology Rehab: Healing Beyond Treatment, Living Beyond Cancer’, exploring how physiotherapy aids in recovery and quality of life.
The event will also feature a heartfelt Cancer Survivors’ Sharing Session, where survivors will share their personal experiences, offering encouragement and solidarity to others facing cancer.
The event is free, but pre-registration is required due to limited seating. Interested participants can register at bit.ly/rcscanpicasso or visit SCAN and Rehab Concept’s official Facebook pages.
