KUCHING, 30 June: With new enhancements and coverage expansion, the Sarawak government, through the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC), has introduced the Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MySRBN) home prepaid package preloaded with 300MB of free data every month in rural areas.

Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the MySRBN package will allow more rural areas to enjoy high-speed Internet access in line with the Sarawak government’s aspiration to create a more inclusive and digitally connected Sarawak.

Juliahi explained that the 300MB of data would be enough for basic communication such as WhatsApp text messages or voice calls.

“However, if the usage exceeds 300MB, MySRBN users can continue using the service from as low as RM5 a week with 200GB of data or RM20 a month with 1TB data.

“RM20 is the lowest price for the same service provided by other telecommunication providers which, is RM70 a month,” he shared.

“The home device for the service will be provided for free,” he told reporters at the press conference after officiating at the launch of the Sarawak Digital and Connectivity Day at Kuching Waterfront today.

Julaihi reiterated that MySRBN was launched in March 2021 on a trial basis to provide high-speed Internet to the rural community, who were previously deprived of Internet connectivity and services.

“All this is made possible by the assistance provided by the Sarawak government,” said Julaihi.

Also present were SDEC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, SDEC chief executive officer Sudarnoto Osman and MUT Permanent Secretary Jafri Lias. — DayakDaily
