Four SOP monitoring teams formed to cover seven Covid-19 zones in Sibu

Covid-19 ... Clusters cause spike in cases.

SIBU, April 12: Stricter standard operating procedures (SOP) monitoring will be carried out in Lanang area here which houses seven Covid-19 zones starting tomorrow.

According to Sibu Disaster Management Committee coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee, the move was due to a serious outbreak of Covid-19 with 221 cases detected in just two weeks from two clusters.

The Jalan Maju Cluster contributed 53 cases while Bulatan Aman Cluster reported 168 cases.

In his daily Sibu Covid-19 update via Facebook live today, he said the committee had formed four SOP monitoring teams to cover the seven zones in the areas concerned where three are in the red zone.

The seven zones are namely Tiong Hua, Tong  Sang, Bukit Lima 5, Poh Yew, Mantis, Sukun and Lada.

“We have to take drastic action by implementing stricter SOP monitoring so that we can control the spread of the virus,” he reasoned.

The Nangka assemblyman said they had started a two-day active case detection today at the Rejang Esplanade.

“More ACD  will be carried out in stages until every area is covered.

“For those staying in Jalan Sukun, they can go to the Lanang Health Clinic for the swab test,” he advised.

To a statement by a netizen that most cases were reported at schools, he neither denied nor agreed with it.

‘I don’t deny that cases are happening at schools but I don’t agree that the majority of the cases are from schools. Most cases here occurred at workplace especially among those in the transportation service and factoriy,” he said.

He noted that for factories, cases happened because between 20 to 30 of the workers are cramped in one room.

In the breakdown of the 64 cases reported in Sibu district, he said 51 of them were in Sibu Municipal Council area, eight in Sibu Jaya and five in Sibu Rural District Council area. — DayakDaily
