KUCHING, May 17: The four primary and secondary schools in Daro that are still without principals are like “ships without their captains”, says Daro assemblyman Safiee Ahmad.

He said the positions of principal in SMK Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajah Normah, SK Penasu, SK Nanga Semah, and SK Batang Lassa are still unfilled to this day.

“The failure to fill these key positions not only affects the teaching and learning process, but also affects the management and administration aspects of the school, akin to ‘a ship without a captain’.

“If we are still not able to solve this problem, how can we dignify the education sector of the country in the direction of being world class,” he said when debating the TYT’s speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

Safiee thus called on the Ministry of Education (MOE) to immediately fill the school head positions and not leave them vacant for too long.

Meanwhile, he also requested a response from the Sarawak government on the progress of upgrading dilapidated schools in Daro, especially the SK Tebaang Daro project which was approved some time ago. — DayakDaily
