KUCHING, June 26: Four local men were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today for assaulting a security guard at a vocational college.
The accused, aged between 34 and 52, all entered pleas of not guilty to the two charges presented before Magistrate Mason Jaro Lenya Barayan.
According to the first charge, the men allegedly assaulted a 28-year-old man using an iron rod, a metal chain, and an umbrella.
They were charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34 of the same code, which carries a jail term of up to three years, a fine, whipping, or any combination of these punishment, upon conviction.
For the second charge, they were accused of trespassing into the vocational college without permission.
The offense under Section 447 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 34, carries a jail term of up to three months, a fine of up to RM1,000, or both.
The incident occurred at a vocational college in Batu Lintang on June 19, and further proceedings have been scheduled by the court.
Kuching District Police Chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah previously stated that the accused were apprehended on June 22 at Jalan Penrissen. Police investigations revealed that three of the accused have prior criminal records involving violence, drug offenses, and online gambling.
Additionally, urine tests conducted indicated that two of the accused tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine. — DayakDaily
