KUCHING, June 4: Kuching District Police Station (IPD Kuching) arrested four local male suspects between the ages of 23 and 32 early this morning in connection with the assault on a Sarawak Deputy Minister on Tuesday (May 30) at the roadside of the Tabuan Jaya housing area.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri in a statement today confirmed the four suspects were arrested in Tabuan Hilir, Semariang, Petra Jaya, and Jalan Simpang Tiga.

A white Volkswagen car, believed to have been driven by the suspects during the assault, was also seized in Taman Sukma, Jalan Sultan Tengah.

The four suspects were discovered to have a history of crime and drug use. Preliminary urine screening tests returned positive for three of them for methamphetamine/syabu type drugs, while another suspect tested positive for THC/Gardena type drugs.

A magistrate has approved remand for the four suspects for four days until June 8 to aid in the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Penal Code Section 506/323, which provides for imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, and imprisonment for up to two years, or a fine, or both.

“With the arrest of the aforementioned four suspects, the police were able to solve the recently reported assault case involving a Sarawak Deputy Minister.
