MIRI, Dec 6: Datuk Rosey Yunus of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will be defending her seat in N.71 Bekenu against Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), and Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK).

Three-term incumbent Rosey will face off against Abu Bakar Amit (PSB), Norhafizah Johari (PKR), and Desmond Gani Pengiran (PBK).

Abu Bakar, a former Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Pujut branch chief, left the party to join PSB in July last year and currently, he is the PSB Lambir branch pro tem chairman.

This morning, Rosey arrived at the nomination centre to submit her candidacy for the State election at Dewan Masyarakat Bekenu at 9am.

Following the strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent the spread of Covid-19, around 20 supporters accompanied Rosey during her walk to the nomination centre, while the candidates from PSB, PKR, and PBK arrived five minutes later.

Rosey has been defending the Bekenu seat since 2006. Previously, she was with Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) before joining Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) and then PBB.

In Sarawak’s 11th State election in 2016, Rosey also faced a four-cornered fight and retained the seat with a majority of 4,789 votes.

She garnered a total of 6,009 votes, defeating the late Bill Kayong from PKR (1,220 votes) and two independents; Austin Sigi Melu (589 votes) and Joe @ Peter Jelin (565 votes). ā€• DayakDaily
