KUCHING, June 21: The Magistrate’s Court fined a former policeman RM1,500 for impersonating a police officer.
Asri Gapar, 30, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zaiton Anuar to the offence under Section 170 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum punishment of 2 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
In default of paying the fine, he would have to serve a 3-month imprisonment term.
The incident occurred at Taman Wira Jaya on April 16, 2023, around 7:30 am.
The complainant, a 27-year-old individual, reported that the accused approached him and displayed a Royal Malaysia Police card.
The accused confronted the complainant due to modifications made to his motorcycle, specifically the loud exhaust sound. As a result, the accused presented his “police card” and instructed the complainant to accompany him to Gita Police Station.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the accused had in fact previously resigned from his position as a policeman after being diagnosed with a mental illness.
Inspector Merylen Lindan Andrew Mang appeared for the prosecution, while the accused did not have legal representation during the proceedings. — DayakDaily
