KUCHING, Feb 20: Sarawak Forest Department confiscated 40 batak logs worth around RM20,000 at Batang Sadong Bridge, near Simunjan, yesterday.
According to a department spokesperson, the logs were confiscated by officers from its Kuching Region at around 4.25pm.
“We stopped and checked a lorry that was transporting logs and found that the driver did not possess any documents relating to its timber cargo.
“Further checks revealed that the lorry was transporting 40 batak logs in various sizes and species without the Sarawak Forest Department stamp, which is an offence under Section 95 (1) of the Sarawak Forest Ordinance 2015,” the department said in a statement today.
The seized logs were worth about RM20,000. All the confiscated items have been sent to its Kuching regional office for further action.
This is the fifth of such cases so far this month. Earlier this month, the department seized 1,321 logs of bakau wood at Pangkalan Ulu Sungai Daun in Kampung Salak.
On Monday (Feb 18), the department stopped a lorry transporting 107 batak logs. — DayakDaily
