KUCHING, Aug 20: Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) together with Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) have planted 1,225 saplings at Sabal Forestry Reserve.
FDS in a statement today said the planting programme is also part of SEB’s corporate-level ‘10-Year Integrated Planting, Protection and Habitat Conservation Campaign’ (2021-2030) in supporting Greening Sarawak Campaign led by FDS.
“While today’s tree planting event contributed to the cumulative number of trees planted in Sarawak under ‘Greening Malaysia Agenda Through 100 million Tree Planting Campaign’ (2021-2025), the more important reason for this effort is it is aligned with our attempts to combat climate change, which has emerged as one of the biggest problems confronting humanity today.
“As the forefront of Greening Sarawak Campaign, FDS is delightful at bringing as many participants (as possible) from the various agencies, industry, NGOs and the local community together to preserve the environment,” it said.
Saplings of high-value indigenous species such as meranti and selangan were planted through the joint initiatives with participation of 300 representatives from Sarawak Energy and FDS, including local communities.
Also present at the event were FDS assistant director Zarina Shebli and Sarawak Energy senior vice president Marconi Magai. — DayakDaily
