KUCHING, May 14: Foreigners with Permanent Resident (PR) status and Long Term Social Visit Pass holders who have undergone quarantine in the country must pay for their own hotel expenses, said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said there were certain individuals who returned to Malaysia together with their spouses and children, undergone the compulsory quarantine, and refused to pay for the hotel cost after checking out.

ā€œAny benefits and specialty given by the Immigration Department to them under the PR and social pass, are revoked until they have paid all outstanding costs with the hotels involved.

ā€œThe Attorney General’s office will also look into this matter in order to take the legal action, until they have paid,ā€ said Ismail Sabri during a press conference held in Putrajaya today.

On another matter, Ismail Sabri also reminded the public to always verify their information before sharing it in order to avoid misleading others.

According to him, as of May 14, 2020, a total of 264 investigation papers had been opened by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) involving fake news on Covid-19.

He said that 177 individuals were still under investigation, while 30 of them was charged in court, 11 was given a warning notice, and 18 of them admitted guilty for their offense.

ā€œThe government is seriously looking into the fake news issue, and the PDRM, including MCMC will take stern action against those who spread fake news.

ā€œI urged the public to always verify their source of information before sharing it, and it can be done at MCMC’s sebenarnya.my portal,ā€ he added.ā€”DayakDaily.
