Foreigner charged with murdering countryman in Miri

MIRI, Feb 27: A foreigner was charged in the Miri Magistrates Court here today with the murder of his countryman whose body was found in a vacant area earlier this month.

The accused, Sibal Hamid, 40, a Suluk, arrived at the courthouse at 8.30am today escorted by police personnel.

The accused nodded to show he understood after the charge was read out to him before Magistrate Randu Ragen. However, no plea was recorded.


The accused was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code with murdering his countryman, ‘Mr X’, at a vacant area outside the gate of No. 14 Miri Airport, Jalan Lapangan Terbang Miri here, between 6.30pm to 7.30pm on February 12.

Sibal faces the death sentence if found guilty of the offence.

The accused was also charged under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for having no valid pass or permit to stay in Malaysia.

ASP Mary Ong prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented.
