KUCHING, June 18: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Public Complaint Bureau chief Milton Foo has questioned Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) if it is a violation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for banks to allow multiple online transfers in a day.
Foo in an a statement today said this is considering the absence of relative alert and sensitivity, including due precaution measures such as calling the customer to check the authenticity of transfer.
“What will be the action taken against the banks if they that do not follow BNM guidelines or SOPs?” he asked.
Foo also inquired about the “fair redress” when BNM requires the bank to do so for the victim.
He said BNM should specify a time frame for the bank to complete investigation and render “fair redress” to the victim.
He added that this included what action can BNM take against the bank account holder and owner who lend their mule accounts to fraudulent syndicates or criminals. — DayakDaily
