KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5: The FLYsiswa initiative will be made into an annual initiative, with an expenditure of RM48 million for next year.
According to a TVS news report, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the airline ticket subsidy assistance initiative had been included in Budget 2025 after being agreed in a Cabinet meeting on September 3.
“The Cabinet’s decision reflects the government’s determination to strengthen regional integration between the Peninsula, Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan and foster national unity in line with the spirit of the Federation of Malaysia,” he said.
Loke said this in response to a question posed by Semporna MP, Datuk Seri Mohd Sahfie Apdal in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He revealed that the initiative has benefited more than 52,030 students this year.
“As of November 4, 2024, as many as 35,183 out of 52,030 eligible students or 68 per cent have redeemed the FLYsiswa voucher.
“Of the number of students eligible for FLYsiswa in 2024, 42.7 per cent (22,226) are from Sabah while 36.8 per cent (19,171) are from Sarawak,” he said.
Introduced in 2023, FLYsiswa is the subsidy for the purchase of airline tickets for students of public universities, polytechnics, and community colleges under the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) as well as for those in matriculation and Teacher Education Institutes (IPG) under the Ministry of Education. — DayakDaily
