MARUDI, June 11: A backroad heading towards Rumah Kajan Sigeh in Long Teru has been flooded following persistent non-stop rain.
According to Captain (PA) Mohd Hazle Shah Abd Hamid of Miri Civil Defence force (APM), the non-stop rain has caused water from a nearby river to overflow and flood the road.
When contacted on Tuesday, he said the flooding has entered its fourth day, and the flooded road is making it impassable to all vehicles.
“The water level is reaching up to six feet high, forcing villagers (of Rumah Kajan Sigeh) to leave their vehicles at an estate which located about 2km from their longhouse,” he said.
A Civil Defence Force (APM) Miri team was earlier deployed to the affected area to monitor the situation at the village on Monday morning.
A total of 461 villagers of the 52-door longhouse are affected.
