Flood victims in Sarawak surpass 10,000 mark; 59 relief centres active

KUCHING, Jan 31: The total number of flood victims in Sarawak has surpassed 10,000 today.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) reported that as of 7pm, 10,950 victims from 3,096 families have been relocated to 59 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) across the State.

Bintulu recorded the highest number of displaced victims at 5,350, followed by Serian (2,254), Samarahan (1,246), Sibu (1,017), Miri (608), and Kuching (475).

In addition to flood victims, SDMC reported that 169 people affected by landslides in Miri and Bintulu have also been relocated to PPS for their safety.

Meanwhile, a new PPS was opened at Dewan Datuk Aaron, Bawan Kanowit, to accommodate 37 fire victims from Rumah Paulus Yan. – DayakDaily
