Flood recedes in Marudi, Telang Usan

KUCHING, March 13: Marudi and Telang Usan districts in Sarawak are facing floods due to a combination of high tides and intermittent heavy rainfall since March 5.

However, Sarawak’s Civil Defence Force (APM) has reported that floodwaters have begun to subside in several areas.

In the Marudi district, among the affected areas is SK Benawa, where the water level reached five inches, impacting 40 residents from 20 households. The water level here is currently receding.

At SK Pengelayan, the water level stands between one to two feet, affecting 42 residents from 21 households.

Similarly, SK Sungai Arang has experienced water levels between one to two feet, affecting 28 residents from 19 households.

In the Telang Usan district, floodwaters are gradually receding following heavy rainfall that began on March 11.

Kampung Long Bemang experienced water levels of 0.9 feet, affecting 580 residents from 103 households.

At SK Long Bemang in Baram, the water level ranges from 1.1 to 3.1 feet, affecting 131 staff members.

Additionally, the Long Bemang Health Clinic in Baram recorded water levels at 30cm, affecting five residents from six households.
