KUCHING, Jan 19: Heavy rain and flooding have caused extensive damage to a road in Kampung Pasir Hulu, Lundu.

According to a statement by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), Lundu firefighters received the call about the incident at 10.40am today.

“The damaged road can still be used by vehicles. The floodwaters in the area are steadily receding,” it reported.

Meanwhile, rescue and evacuation efforts are still on going at Kampung Sinar Budi Baru, Desa Wira, Kuching.

At 10.30am, firefighters and rescue teams from the Batu Lintang Bomba station evacuated seven flood victims and have relocated them to Kampung Sinar Budi Baru’s Futsal Court, while waiting for temporary evacuation centres (PPS) to open.

Among those rescued was a family of seven, one of which is a disabled (OKU) individual.

“Water levels in these areas have reached knee level and are still rising as it is still raining.

“Police are also monitoring the area,” it said. – DayakDaily
