“I am very excited about a ship called Doulos Hope that will be calling in Kuching very soon.

“It is a floating library and book fair, with over 2,000 titles and 300,000 books on board.

“In fact, this ship is owned by a charity organisation called GBA Ships from Germany. They’ve been going around the world promoting literacy, community engagement, and so on,” Dr Sim stated in a Facebook Reels video.

He went on to say that the ship has been to Hong Kong, Cambodia, and Singapore.

Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government (MPHLG) Sarawak, encouraged students to visit the ship, enjoy its atmosphere, and engage with the 100 volunteer crew members who hail from 35 different countries.

“I guarantee you will never regret it because this ship’s last visit was in 2015, and we don’t know when it will return,” he said.

It was reported that Doulos Hope is set to open its doors to the public at Kuching Port Authority in Pending here from Aug 2 until Aug 28.

The book fair will be open Tuesday through Sunday, from 2pm to 9pm, with the last entry at 8.30pm. It will be closed on Monday.
