KUCHING, April 8: Kuching Water Board (KWB) and contractors of the Jalan Batu Kawa-Matang water supply project have been instructed to repair the stretch of road that was damaged and piled up with soil due to construction works as they have become hazardous to road users.

Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Datuk Julaihi Narawi made the call following a surprise visit to the project site located near Taman Harmony with about 800 houses.

The purpose of the visit, according to a media release today, was to inspect the progress of the project as well as take action regarding the complaints from the public about the road being damaged and muddied; so much so that it has become difficult for road users to pass through as it is the main road frequented by surrounding housing residents.

Julaihi has demanded that KWB and contractors involved take appropriate action immediately to address the problem.

The Jalan Batu Kawa-Matang water supply project aims to improve water pressure in Matang and Rampangi area.

Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, KWB general manager Rodziah Mohamad and Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) director Ir Chang Kuet Shian were also present.
