KUCHING, June 5: The police have arrested five individuals believed to have robbed an eatery at Mile 11 of Jalan Matang here.
In a statement today, Padawan district police chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the robbery occurred around 12.50am last Saturday (June 3).
According to a police report by a 27-year-old man, he was outside the eatery when seven armed men in masks appeared which prompted him, eatery workers and customers to flee the scene.
The seven suspects left the eatery in two vehicles.
The police then launched a manhunt and arrested four men aged between 34 and 41, at a house in Jalan Arang the next day (June 4).
A fifth man aged 38 was arrested at an eatery in Jalan Abell on June 5.
Abang Zainal Abidin said with the arrests of the suspects, the police believe they have solved a number of robbery cases in Batu Kawah and Matang.
Meanwhile, he advised business shops operating 24 hours daily to beef up safety measures by installing closed circuit television (CCTV) at strategic locations, lighting up their premises, and opt for fenced security at the sales counter for the safety of their workers.
