Five men detained within 24 hours after handphone shop break-in

MIRI, Sept 24: Less than 24 hours after a handphone shop in the city centre was broken into, police have detained five local men to assist in their investigations on the case.

According to Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, the suspects, aged between 25 and 43, were picked up in two separate locations yesterday afternoon by a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) led by Inspector Fredly Juing.


“Three of the suspects were picked up in the city centre nearby an eatery premise, while another two in Pujut. The arrests were made between 2.30pm and 3pm, Monday,” he said when contacted.

Lim added that the burglary occurred around 2am and involved losses of about RM19,000. Various handphone models and other electronic gadgets were reported missing in the incident.

All the suspects are currently being detained at Miri Central police station for questioning. Police also uncovered the stolen items from their possessions.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking. — DayakDaily
