Five houses at Kg Sg Bedil razed in afternoon fire

KUCHING, Oct 6: A fire broke out at Kampung Sungai Bedil, destroying five houses and rendering seven families homeless, today.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre disclosed it received a distress call from MERS 999 alerting them to the incident at 3.10pm.

Three teams of firefighters from the Petra Jaya, Padungan and Tabuan Jaya fire stations were despatched to the scene.


Upon arrival, the 25-men force lead by operations commander Azaharul Sahari attempted to put out the fire that was spreading rapidly.

“The fire was successfully controlled around 3.50pm. Four houses were 100 per cent destroyed, while another one was 80 per cent burnt,” Bomba statement said.

No one was injured in the incident.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. — DayakDaily
