SIBU, Feb 8: Sibu Jaya is under Movement Control Order (MCO) but that did not deter five men from indulging in illegal cockfighting yesterday.
A police MCO enforcement team on beat duty at about 3.30pm happened to chance upon the five at an open space in Lane 22C, Sibu Jaya here heavily engrossed in the activity.
Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the five men, aged between 23 to 46, ran as fast as they could when seeing the police team.
“The team pursued after them and managed to apprehend all of them,” he said.
One of them, aged 46, was supposed to be on home quarantine as he was then wearing a white wristband on his left hand.
Stanley said the man had his swab test done at 8am on the same day.
Items seized from them included five live roosters, cockfighting accessories and a weighing machine.
The five men, he said, were fined RM1,000 each for breaching MCO under Section 22B of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 1988.
“The case is also investigated under Section 3 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960,” he added. — DayakDaily
