Five attackers in viral student bullying video identified, one detained

MIRI, July 16: Miri police are investigating an alleged bullying incident afer a video showing five teenagers assaulting and kicking a teenage boy went viral on social media.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed this when contacted today.


He also confirmed that the five attackers in the video have been identified.

Lim said, one of the boys was detained this morning (July 16).

“One of the attackers is a student of a secondary school in Miri, while four others are former students of the same school,” he opined.

The alleged victim on the viral video has been identified as a 13-year-old boy and the incident believed to have taken place on July 8 inside a vacant building somewhere in Miri.

“The mother of the 13-year-old victim lodged a police report today,” said Lim.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

“Our investigations revealed that the incident ensued after the suspects got angry with the victim upon finding out that he told a shop owner that they were stealing food from his premises,” said Lim.

In the attack, the victim sustained bodily injuries and was taken to Miri Hospital for medical treatment. — DayakDaily
