KUCHING, Sept 19: A fishing vessel skipper tragically lost his life after falling into the sea while engaged in fishing activities, approximately 36 nautical miles off Tanjung Po here.

According to a TVS news report, Lieutenant Commander Mohd Khir Baharom, the commanding officer of KM Marlin, stated that his team received information about the incident around 4pm.

The team located the fishing boat at approximately 11pm that same night.

“When we found the boat, three crew members were on board, and one of them was unconscious.

“Unfortunately, one victim passed away, and we made the decision to bring the boat to the Tun Abang Salahuddin Maritime Complex (KOMTAS) Jetty in Muara Tebas,” Mohd Khir said.

According to two of the crew members, the skipper fell overboard, and despite rescue efforts, he was found deceased.

Mohd Khir explained that the skipper reportedly lost consciousness before falling into the sea, leading to his drowning despite attempts by the crew to save him.

At the time of the incident, the sea was slightly rough, making conditions unsafe for small fishing vessels. This also posed challenges for KM Marlin’s rescue operation.

The victim’s body was handed over to the police for further action after it was brought to the KOMTAS Jetty. — DayakDaily
