Fishermen missing after falling into water near Asajaya

The Sarawak Bomba search and rescue team has set up an operations post at the Kampung Semera jetty.

KUCHING, Oct 12: Search and rescue efforts are underway for a fisherman who was reported missing after falling into the water when the paddle he was using for rowing a boat broke about two nautical miles from the Kampung Semera jetty in Asajaya today.

According to the initial case report, Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the 30-year-old man was identified as Faddrul Razie Zaini.

Faddrul was among a group of six fishermen who set out to sea on a boat to catch fish at about 5am.

It was reported that the weather was fine when the incident happened. The other fishermen had attempted to rescue Faddrul, but were unsuccessful.

Sarawak Bomba received a call for assistance from fishermen at 6.30am today, after which a team led by Rosnin Meni was deployed to the Kampung Semera jetty as well as to the house of the missing man to gather information.

The rest of the fishermen have been rescued and brought back to the jetty.

The search and rescue operation involved Sarawak Bomba, police and Civil Defence Force personnel as well as fishermen, villagers and the missing man’s family members in four boats.
