MIRI, Nov 12: A 46-year-old fisherman was found safe after being adrift at sea overnight near Kuala Baram here.

According to a report by Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the victim identified as Baji Berinau went fishing using his own boat around 4am yesterday (Nov 11).

However, he failed to return home by afternoon which later prompted his brother to lodge a police report around 2.55pm and had other fishermen out to the sea to find him.

Following this, a search and rescue (SAR) operation was activated for the victim.

Around 10.24am today, the victim was found safe and brought to Sri Bima Jetty, Marina Bay to be handed over to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

“It was reported that the victim was found by another fisherman from Brunei. The victim’s boat had run out of fuel and was left adrift to the neighbouring country’s waters.

“The victim then sought help from the foreign fisherman to refuel his boat,” the Bomba reported. — DayakDaily
