KUCHING, Jan 18: The first of four traffic light intersections along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway has been completed, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

He said this when officiating at the opening of the Northbank traffic light intersection at Tabuan Tranquility here this morning.

The traffic light intersection is now operational and open to the public.

“The completion of this first intersection is a very positive development. I have seen this morning how it has helped to assist in smoother traffic flows.

“The people who use the road daily are eagerly awaiting this and the completion of the other four. I know in the last few days the traffic volume along the expressway has been very heavy leading to very bad jams.

“This is because some roads had to be closed to facilitate the upgrading process. So I must thank the users for their patience,” said Uggah in a statement today.

Uggah, who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD), urged road users to continue to bear with the inconveniences caused by construction work.

The whole upgrading package costing RM72.7 million was awarded on October 11 last year to a rescue contractor, Glumox Abiz Sdn Bhd.

With Uggah at the opening were MIPD permanent secretary Chiew Chee Yaw, Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak director Ir Richard Tajan, and Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Dato Peter Minos. — DayakDaily
