First Kuching Invitational Water Polo Cup 2022 to be held from Nov 25-27 at Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre

KUCHING, Nov 24: The ‘1st Kuching Invitational Water Polo Cup 2022’ is set to be held from Nov 25 to 27 at Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre.

Organised by the Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC), the cup will see under-16 players from Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia joining the invitational.

According to organising chairman Voon Yong Hui in a statement today, for the first time, a women’s open and men’s under-16 water polo championships will take place in Kuching.


Voon said the objective to organise the competition is to revive the glory days of water polo in the State.

He pointed out that the sport is no longer active in Sarawak due to lack of support from the relevant authorities, which is why Sarawak is far behind the rest in water polo in Malaysia.

“Despite the setback, I am also optimistic that there is a future yet for the sport in the State,” he added.

Voon also thanked the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and all involved for supporting and helping to organise the event.

The teams that will be competing in the event are Taiwan Water Polo Team (Taiwan), Kusuma Harapan Indonesia, 28 Degree Aquatic Singapore, Acube Water Polo Singapore, Chinese Swimming Club Singapore, Pacer Water Polo Academy Singapore, Power Aquatics Swimming Club (Malaysia), Srikl Sharkies Water Polo Team (Malaysia), Tridents Negeri Sembilan (Malaysia), and Women Water Polo (WMWP) Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia).

Members of the public are welcome to watch the game which will begin from 7am to 6pm on each day. — DayakDaily
