First Iban colonel Dunstan Nyaring Angking passes away

KUCHING, Sept 23: The first Iban colonel, Col. (R) Dunstan Nyaring Angking passed away this morning at his residence in Batu Kawa at the age of 77.

Hailing from Betong, Dunstan who served as First Renjer was the first native Iban officer to attain the rank of full colonel in the Malaysian Army.

He served the First Renjer during the Indonesian confrontation and was assigned to receive on behalf of his battalion, the Battle Truncheon.

The Battle Truncheon was presented by the first Governor of Sarawak Tun Abang Haji Openg Abang Sapi’ee on Nov 19, 1966 in Lundu. — DayakDaily
