SARATOK, March 20: A 19-door double-storey longhouse Rh Albert Beji in Kampung Pelasuk, Roban was saved from being razed to the ground last night, thanks to swift action by its villagers.
Using two fire extinguishers, they managed to extinguish the flames before they could spread further to the rest of the longhouse.
The fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said they received the emergency report at 10.43pm.
Seventeen firefighters from Sarikei and Saratok stations were dispatched to the scene immediately.
Operations commander PPgB Mahmudin Narudin disclosed that the fire started from the upper floor of door number 10.
“Villagers were efficient and quick by taking the initial action of using two extinguishers to control the fire before our arrival. The fire only caused 10 per cent damage.
“Firefighters also checked thoroughly also ensured that the longhouse was no longer in danger,” he said, adding that the operations ended at 12.14am.
No injuries or fatalities were reported in the fire. -DayakDaily
