MIRI, April 22: When firemen here rushed to Adong Estate along Jalan Sawit in the wee hours this morning, they thought they were dealing with a case of a car having caught fire.

But they were wrong, partly.

“Upon arriving at the scene, our men immediately proceeded to extinguish the blaze. It was only after the flames were put out completely that they realised there was a body inside the car,” said Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Supt Law Poh Kiong.

The unidentified charred remains have been brought to Miri Hospital for a post-mortem.

When contacted, Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the ill-fated Perodua Kembara was believed to be heading towards Woodman Estate from the Go-Kart area when it slammed into a bridge and burst into flames.

It is estimated that the tragic incident happened around 1am.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
