KUCHING, April 9: Firefly airline’s Penang-Kuching routes are set to return on a daily basis, starting April 11.

The Firefly Penang-Kuching flight operation will be on a daily basis, once daily, arriving at 4.10pm in Kuching and departing back to Penang at 4.40pm the same day.

To purchase flight tickets, the public can go direct to Firefly’s website or make a booking through travel agents.

Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said Firefly was set to operate the Penang-Kuching route on Nov 1, 2021 with bi-weekly flights but later due to some technical issues, the route was operated by their sister company, Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB).

According to Lee, on Dec 11, 2021, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) had decided to increase all incoming flight to Sarawak from 223 to 307 flights weekly where MAB’s Penang-Kuching flight frequencies were respectively increased to seven times weekly.

ā€œHowever, on Jan 10, Firefly Sdn Bhd asked for the return of the Penang-Kuching route operation, and it was approved by SDMC on Feb 4,ā€ he said in a statement today.

Lee said currently, the only airlines operating the Penang-Kuching route is Airasia Berhad with 14 flights weekly.

He also said with the two airlines operating the route, it will create more varieties, availability and choices of flight, reasonable flight fare and attract more passengers especially from the Northern parts of West Malaysia to visit Sarawak. ā€” DayakDaily
