KUCHING, Sept 28: Firefighters responding to a house fire found a stack of cash amounting to RM1,000 in the rubble today.

Although the family staying at the house lost their home, it was a relief for them when firefighters who rushed to the scene managed to save their money.

The fire broke out around 9am at Lorong 1Z in Kg Tabuan Hj Drahman.

A total of 21 firefighters from the Tabuan and Padungan fire stations were deployed to scene where they found fire engulfing two wooden non-permanent structures.

The firefighters doused the flames completely by 11am and found the cash during the operations.

The money was later handed over by Kuching Zone 1 operations officer PPgB Nazari Harun to the grateful homeowner.

Two houses at Lorong 1Z in Kg Tabuan Hj Drahman were completely destroyed in a fire.

A 40-year-old man was reportedly injured with burns on 30 per cent of his body after he tried to save himself by jumping down from an upper floor window.

The cause of the fire and total loss are being investigated by a forensics team. — DayakDaily
