Fire razes workers quarters to ground in Miri

KUCHING, Feb 18: Three blocks of workers quarters were razed to the ground in an afternoon fire incident near Jalan Pujut 7 in Miri today.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation center in a statement today said they received the emergency call from the Malaysia Emergency Rescue Services (EMRS) 999 at 1.47 pm.


10 firefighters from Lopeng fire station led by PBK II Nasir Razali together with Zone 6 operation officer PPgB Jessbent and Zone 6 forensic officer PPgB Shamlie Rabaie rushed to the scene. Also at the scene were three police personnel.

“Operation commander at the location reported that all the three block of workers quarters consisting 60 doors, were completely destroyed by the fire.

“The firefighters managed to control the flame from spreading to the nearby structure and no casualties were reported in the incident.

“Some 20 occupants in the quarters managed to escape to safety during the fire,” the statement read. – DayakDaily.
