KUCHING, Oct 9: A two-storey terrace house at Kenyalang Park was severely damaged in a fire this evening, with approximately 80 per cent of the property destroyed.
Fortunately, all seven tenants managed to escape without injury.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Padungan responded to the emergency at 7.56pm and swiftly dispatched a team of firefighters to the scene. The operation was also assisted by Bomba teams from Batu Lintang and Tabuan Jaya stations.
Operations commander reported that upon arrival, flames had already engulfed most of the double-storey terrace unit. Firefighters swiftly launched suppression efforts, deploying one 200-foot hose line with two jets powered by the fire engine pump and drawing water from a nearby fire hydrant.
The fire was brought under control before it could spread to adjacent houses on both sides, thanks in part to the party wall structure that prevented the flames from leaping across units.
Preliminary information revealed that the house had been rented out to four families comprising four adult men and three adult women.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng was also present at the scene to observe the operation and extend his concern to those affected.
Other agencies assisting in the operation included the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Civil Defence Force (APM), and a Sarawak Energy contractor. – DayakDaily
