SIBU, Dec 30: A raging fire destroyed eight units of barrack block at the 10th Battalion General Operations Force (GOF) on Jalan Upper Lanang here at around 7pm last night (Dec 29).
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), despite the intensity of the fire, all residents were safely evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
“The incident involved a 10-room barracks measuring 200×40 square feet. Out of the 10 rooms, only the first two were spared from the flames.
“A total of 18 residents were affected across the seven occupied units, while three units were unoccupied at the time of the fire,” Bomba stated in its report.
The swift response from firefighters ensured the safety of all residents and prevented further escalation of the incident.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. – DayakDaily
