MIRI, Oct 26: A warehouse along Miri Bypass Road that was used to store a variety of household appliances and hardware items was about 90 per cent destroyed when a fire broke out this afternoon.
No one was hurt in the incident, but workers were spotted running out of the building when the alarm was raised. Huge plumes of black smoke fill the sky, visible even from the city centre, and several witnesses claimed they heard sounds of explosions.
Firemen from Lopeng and Miri stations, led by operation commander Terry Robson, rushed to the scene when the call for help came in at 2.45pm. Miri fire chief Supt Law Poh Kiong was also present.
The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes, but at press time, firemen were still monitoring the situation.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. — DayakDaily
