KUCHING, July 17: The upper floors of a three-storey bungalow belonging to a datin at Jalan Pisang was completely razed in an afternoon fire yesterday.

Firefighter teams from the Batu Lintang, Padungan and Tabuan Jaya fire stations, comprising 32 personnel, were despatched to the house, located near Sarawak General Hospital at 4.07pm.

According to Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii, firefighters manage to control the fire from spreading further by 5.45pm.

However, 80 per cent of the 145 x 145 square feet bungalow had burnt down.

Initial investigations suggest that the fire started from the third floor, and later spread to the second floor.

The cause of the fire and estimated losses are still under investigation.
